Claude Opus 4.7 Fast Mode Is Now in Research Preview on the API and Claude Code
Anthropic has launched Fast Mode for Claude Opus 4.7 in research preview, available on the API and in Claude Code — bringing significantly lower latency to their most capable model without sacrificing quality.

Claude Opus 4.7 Fast Mode: What's New
Anthropic has released Fast Mode for Claude Opus 4.7 as a research preview, now available on the API and within Claude Code. This new mode brings substantially reduced latency to Claude Opus 4.7 — Anthropic's most capable model — making it more practical for real-time applications, interactive coding sessions, and high-frequency agentic tasks that previously hit speed bottlenecks.
Why Fast Mode Matters
Opus 4.7 is Anthropic's flagship model, delivering top-tier reasoning, coding, and analysis capabilities. But frontier models at full quality come with a latency cost. For many production use cases — code autocompletion, real-time chat, agent loops running many turns in sequence — waiting several seconds per response is a dealbreaker.
Fast Mode addresses this without requiring developers to drop down to a smaller, less capable model. Instead of choosing between speed and intelligence, developers can now run Opus 4.7 faster for tasks where response time is critical, while keeping the same model for consistency.
Availability in Claude Code
The launch of Fast Mode directly within Claude Code is particularly significant. Claude Code is Anthropic's agentic coding assistant that operates directly in the terminal, reading and editing files, running tests, and navigating codebases autonomously. Faster inference in this context means tighter feedback loops, quicker iteration cycles, and a dramatically smoother developer experience — especially for long coding sessions where hundreds of model calls may happen in a single session.
Access and Pricing
Claude Opus 4.7 Fast Mode is currently in research preview — available to API users and Claude Code subscribers. Developers can access it through the Anthropic API. As research preview features graduate to general availability, pricing and rate limits will be finalized. For now, this is Anthropic's clearest signal that speed-quality tradeoffs at the frontier are becoming a thing of the past.
