The Problem With AI Assistants Today

Every AI writing tool requires the same ritual: copy your draft, switch to a new tab, paste it in, generate, copy the result, switch back, paste again. By the time you're done, you've lost your context, your thread, and probably your patience. Cue is a macOS app built to eliminate that entirely.

How It Works

Cue introduces a dead-simple interaction model: double-tap the right Command key anywhere you're typing, and a single-line AI companion appears 8px below your cursor — no window, no new tab, no app switch. Type what you want (refine, rewrite, translate, summarize, fix grammar), and Cue streams the result in place. One keystroke commits it: replace, append, or copy.

The three-step flow is intentionally minimal:

1. Summon — double-tap right ⌘ in any text field
2. Ask — type your instruction; result streams inline
3. Commit — ⌘↵ to replace, ⌘↓ to append, ⌘C to copy. Cue closes itself.

Works Everywhere You Type

Cue hooks into the macOS text input layer, which means it works in any app with a text field — Slack, Telegram, WhatsApp, iMessage, Notes, Gmail, Linear, Terminal, and more. There's no list of supported apps because the list is every app. If a cursor blinks there, Cue works there.

Selection Mode

Beyond summoning from an empty field, you can also select any existing text and tap Option to trigger a transform — rewrite, make it shorter, sharper, fix grammar, or translate. The selection is replaced inline with the result. Double-summon (Option twice) picks up context from your last Cue interaction so you can iterate without re-prompting.

Privacy-First by Design

Cue ships at just 2.5MB, requires no account, and collects zero telemetry. It runs on your local Claude or Codex CLI setup — keystrokes never leave your Mac. This makes it a compelling choice for anyone handling sensitive work in Slack, email, or internal tools who doesn't want cloud-based AI assistants logging their drafts.

Who It's For

Cue is purpose-built for people who write a lot across many apps — product managers drafting Slack updates, engineers writing GitHub comments, founders replying to emails.
