ChatGPT Launches Personal Finance Feature: Connect Your Bank Accounts and Get AI-Powered Money Insights
OpenAI has rolled out a new personal finance experience inside ChatGPT, letting Pro users in the U.S. securely link their financial accounts and get AI-driven insights grounded in real spending data.

What Just Launched
OpenAI has introduced a new personal finance experience inside ChatGPT, currently available in preview for Pro users in the United States. The feature allows users to securely connect their financial accounts and receive AI-powered insights based on their actual financial data — not generic advice.
With support for more than 12,000 financial institutions through Plaid (with Intuit coming soon), ChatGPT can now pull in real-time account data, categorize spending, and surface patterns users might otherwise miss.
What You Can Do With It
Once accounts are connected, ChatGPT provides a live financial dashboard covering portfolio performance, spending categories, subscriptions, and upcoming payments. From there, users can ask questions in plain language:
- Goal planning — Help me save $1,500 by August
- Spend analysis — Where did most of my travel budget go last quarter?
- Subscription review — Which recurring charges can I cut?
- Scenario planning — What if I paid off my loan early?
- Investment risk review — How concentrated is my portfolio?
ChatGPT can also store personal financial context in Financial Memories, so future conversations stay personalized and coherent.
The AI Behind It
The feature is powered by GPT-5.5, which OpenAI says is significantly stronger at reasoning through complex, context-dependent financial questions. More than 200 million users already come to ChatGPT monthly for budgeting help and financial questions — this feature gives those conversations actual data to work with.
Privacy and Data Control
Financial data is never used to train models, connections are managed through established OAuth flows, and users can disconnect accounts at any time. The rollout is intentionally limited at launch to a smaller Pro user group so the team can learn from real-world usage before expanding to Plus and eventually all users.
Why This Matters
Personal finance has historically required stitching together multiple apps — budgeting tools, bank portals, investment dashboards — with no single place to ask holistic questions. ChatGPT with connected accounts changes that: one AI, all your accounts, and the reasoning ability to connect the dots across spending, savings, goals, and context shared over time.
