Codeberg
Codeberg is a democratic, non-profit platform designed specifically for hosting free and open-source software projects. Founded in 2019 by the German association Codeberg e.V., the platform serves as a principled alternative to corporate-owned giants like GitHub. It matters because it offers a safe, privacy-respecting home for developers who want to avoid the data-harvesting practices and commercial influence of mainstream big-tech code hosting providers.
